2012 Summer Reading Program
2012 Middle School Summer Reading ProgramSeventh grade - The Land by Mildred Taylor. Students will have to complete a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting two characters. Students will also complete a list of new vocabulary words found in the text.
Eighth grade - Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow. Students will complete a graphic organizer, tracking Tebow’s prominent characteristics shown through his life experiences. Students will also complete a list of new vocabulary words found in the text.

2012 High School Summer ReadingNinth grade- The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain. Students will have to complete a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting two characters.
Tenth grade- The Count of Monte Cristo abridged version written by Alexander Dumas and translated by Robin Boss (most understandable version). Students will fill out a graphic organizer listing three people Edmond took revenge upon and the acts of revenge he took. Eleventh grade- Animal Farm by George Orwell. Students will refer to handout with the historical background of Animal Farm to fill out a graphic organizer identifying which animals correspond to which type of leader or regime. Twelfth grade- the Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Students will refer to the handout of the Structural Model of Personality and the definitions of id, ego, and superego to match characters to each level of consciousness. They will also have to defend why that character represents that consciousness. All students will be required to write a five paragraph essay on their summer reading using their graphic organizers and books only. This will be their summer reading test grade. |
